Hello to you, little internet wanderer and welcome to my Cornish lifestyle blog, A Cornish Girl in a Big World! I’m so happy to have you here.
I created this blog, A Cornish Girl in a Big World, originally as a bit of stress relief when I wasn’t crazily working towards my degree or sleeping, which felt like the only two things I did during my time at uni! I’d been thinking about starting a blog for a while, and hoped I’d be able to keep it up for more than just a couple of weeks. It seems that I have done quite well on that front since we are now over 6 years in!
To tell you a little more about me, my name is Holly and I’m 26 years old. I’m proud to say that I was born and raised in Cornwall, which will always be one of my favourite places in the world. With its beautiful beaches, cafes and restaurants and the feeling of home, there really is nowhere better in my eyes.
I graduated from Cardiff University with a First Class degree in English Language (BA Hons) in 2018. It was a great experience – although I really enjoyed the course itself, it was the people I met and city life which made a lasting impression. I loved Cardiff so much that I stayed there working for a few years after uni.
After graduating, I worked as an Editorial Assistant Intern at Style of the City magazine. I loved creating content, reviewing books and restaurants and learning a lot about the world of business, publishing and myself! To see some of my articles, visit my Roll On 2019 post and http://www.styleofthecitymag.co.uk/ . Although I loved working at the magazine, I was only able to be there for a couple of months. Since moving on, I’ve worked within the hospitality industry which has brought its own challenges!
Although I loved Cardiff, I really struggled during the Coronavirus lockdowns. The pandemic made me realise how much I missed Cornwall, living close to my family and always being within walking distance of a beach. It was a big decision to up and move back, but I have been so thankful ever since.
A Cornish Girl in a Big World’s blog posts initially focused on student and graduate advice. Since moving back to the homeland, the blog’s topics have shifted: we now focus on celebrating Cornwall and all things lifestyle. You can expect lots of restaurant reviews and local recommendations, with a healthy dose of book reviews and general life musings thrown in.
In my free time, I love to walk along the beach searching for sea glass, cuddle up with a good book (follow me on Goodreads) and spend time cooking and playing board games with my husband. I also recently wrote a guest blog post for Orange Roofs, a local holiday-home agency based in beautiful St Ives, where I discussed my top 5 Cornish beaches with beach cafes. You can read that blog here.
I also run an Instagram account, @acornishgirl, where I share photos of the beautiful Cornish scenery, events and food.
