A Perfect Night Out: Attending The Mexico Inn’s ‘Festive Thursday’

There’s lots to enjoy in the run up to Christmas, but perhaps the nation’s favourite Christmas pastimes are enjoying the yummy food and listening to the comforting tunes that come back around each year. Put these two together and you’ve got a winning combination, right? When I saw via Instagram that The Mexico Inn in Longrock were to be hosting a series of Festive Thursday events this month, I knew I had to go. Boasting a fabulous festive menu and live music from different artists each week, this is the perfect relaxing evening out whether you are attending as a couple, family or group of friends.

The Food

Last week, my husband and I went along and had a fabulous evening. The festive menu is extensive, with a great range of options; from snacks and starters, to mains, puddings and cocktails, there is something for everyone to enjoy. I loved that some plates can be made small or large depending on how hungry you are! I think this is such a great idea, as it makes the choices more accessible (although it does mean making a decision is much more difficult!).

We shared the devilled whitebait (one of Sal’s favourites), and each had a portion of smoked ham croquettes to start (it was a very hungry kind of day). For mains, I had the turkey (got to be done at Christmas!) and he had the smoked ham and colcannon. Everything was delicious – super fresh and piping hot. And I have got to say that the portion sizes are very generous, making it great value for money. I would’ve loved to try a pudding (I had my eye on the Millionaire’s Tart), but was just too full. We will have to go back another time, twist my arm and all that!

The Atmosphere

What really made the evening stand out, though, was the atmosphere. Even though it was a Thursday, the restaurant was well-filled and bustling, yet it didn’t feel overcrowded. And, as always, the service was top notch. The live music was exceptional, and really elevated the evening to another level. There’s something so special about live music – you have much more appreciation for the talent of the individual or band and it completely changes the atmosphere within the room.

It was a wonderfully relaxing evening out; we took our time with the food, listening to the music, taking in the classy Christmas décor and enjoying each other’s company. It was a very cosy evening and a great distraction from the chaos of Christmas shopping and organising our social calendars for the festive season!

Final Thoughts

I would highly recommend visiting. The Mexico Inn’s Festive Thursday evenings are destined to be very popular, so I would encourage booking ahead of time. If you’re interested in learning more about what’s on, you can find a full list of the musicians who will be performing (different artists each week) and a copy of the festive menu, as well as information about their New Year offerings on Instagram, so definitely check this out here or visit their website.

Even if you don’t make it before Christmas – let’s be honest, it’s a hectic time of year – I’d recommend booking to go another time as the food and service are always great at The Mexico Inn. Truly a little gem hidden in Longrock.
